Statement re: Dunleavy Administration, North Slope Borough Sign Fish and Wildlife MOU
Voice of the Arctic Iñupiat (VOICE) applauds the State of Alaska, North Slope Borough and Alaska Department of Fish and Game in their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance cooperation on issues related to fish, wildlife, and their uses. VOICE has worked diligently with the Borough and Governor Dunleavy’s office to ensure local input on management issues, and has always held that decisions affecting the region should involve those who live here and stand to be most impacted.
“This MOU is an excellent example of agencies working together to ensure the sustainability of our economic and subsistence resources. The North Slope has and continues to live with the consequences of unilateral, heavy-handed decisions made in Washington, DC. It’s crucial that we work together and fight for a seat at the table before important decisions affecting our communities, and our state, are made,” said VOICE president Sayers Tuzroyluk Sr.
